Key concepts

We'll come back to a handful of terms again and again throughout the rest of this section. Let's get quickly acquainted with them before moving on.

Collection​

The single "library" that holds all of your data (notes, cards, folders, decks). In Tsunagi there's currently one collection per device: you can't create multiple collections and switch between them. This keeps the concept of a collection simple enough that it never causes confusion: the moment you open the app, you're already in your collection.

Folder and deck​

You organize your cards using a two-level hierarchy:

  • Folder, the top-level grouping. A broad category like "Med School, Year 2" could be a folder.
  • Deck, where your cards actually live. A folder can contain multiple decks (for example "Anatomy," "Pharmacology"), or a deck can sit directly at the top level with no folder at all.

Folders don't nest: a folder can't contain another folder, only decks. Each deck can have its own study settings (preset); we cover this in Settings and More.

Note and flashcard​

A note is the actual content you write: a definition, an explanation, a question-and-answer set. A flashcard is the unit generated from that note, the thing that shows up one at a time in your study queue. The difference between the two is covered on this section's third page. For now, just get familiar with the names.

Card status​

A flashcard is always in one of these states: new (never studied), learning (recently introduced, reviewed at short intervals), or review (past the learning stage, in the spaced-repetition cycle). Which card comes up next on the study screen depends on this status and its schedule.
