Study settings (presets)

Settings like how many new cards a deck shows per day, how easily a card gets flagged as a leech, and what target retention FSRS aims for are all managed through a preset. A single preset can be assigned to more than one deck: instead of repeating the same settings on every deck individually, you can create one preset and apply it to several decks.

The preset screen has the following sections, in order:

Daily limits​

Sets how many new cards and how many review cards you'll see per day. You can also separately control whether new cards keep showing up after you've hit the daily review limit.

New cards​

This is where you set the order new cards are added to the deck, and the learning steps (the short intervals, like "1 minute, 10 minutes," at which you'll see a card again while first learning it).

Lapses​

Relearning steps and leech settings live here. A card is considered a leech once it's been answered wrong a number of times you set: it's a card that keeps getting forgotten, one the normal review cycle isn't working for. You also choose here what happens to a leech card, whether it gets frozen or just tagged.

Ordering​

Settings that determine the order cards appear in your study queue, such as new card gathering priority, how new cards are prioritized against reviews, same-day learning priority, and review order.

FSRS​

This is where you set the target retention rate (between 70 and 99 percent; the higher it is, the more often you review), the maximum interval (the longest a card can go before being due again), and your personalized FSRS parameters. You don't need to enter these parameters by hand: a separate FSRS Simulator tool can use your own review history to compute the best parameters for you and apply them here.

Easy days​

To reduce your review load on specific days of the week (for example, seeing fewer cards on weekends), you can set a separate ratio for each day.

Burying​

Controls whether "sibling" cards generated from the same note (for example, the different blanks of a Cloze note) can show up back-to-back on the same day: you can toggle this separately for new cards, review cards, and same-day learning cards. Note: even though this setting is called "burying," the toggles on the settings screen may show the word "freeze" instead. What's meant here is still temporary (same-day) burying, not the indefinite "Freeze" action on the study screen.

Audio, video, timer, auto-advance​

The remaining sections are fine-tuning options: whether audio plays automatically, whether the question is skipped when the answer replays, whether a timer is shown while you study (and how long before it turns red), and whether the question/answer auto-advances after a set amount of time.
